With highly purified pepsin, amino-acids might act as either positive or negative activators, depending mainly on the enzyme concn.; amino-acid concns. which were inhibitory at relatively high enzyme concns. showed positive activation at lower enzyme concns., and with short exposure. HCN and pyrophosphate acted similarly. It was probable that under special conditions, pepsin was activated by H2S. The reported differences between pepsin and cathep-sin were apparently due to different exptl. conditions.
