The tissue specificity and diagnostic value of urinary enzyme activities is enhanced by the measurement of urinary alkaline phosphatase activity in patients with elevated urinary LDH activities. Alkaline phosphatase and an inhibitor of its activity are constantly present in human urine; dialysis removes the inhibitor and allows precise definition of the normal range.
