The authors revert to Lacroix's description of the perichondrial ring as « a detached part of the periosteal bone » to prove that its origin is, actually, altogether different. This formation is associated to the metaphysis throughout its evolution. Though its structure looks simple in fact, it is composed of three layers whose origin differs. The term of metaphyseal ring is proposed because the origin, the evolution and the structure of this formation is thus better reflected.
