A method for determining the bactericidal activity of gaseous disinfectants

By using Klaiperon[long dash]Mendeleev's formula reflecting the common properties of gases, an original method was devised for determining the comparative bactericidal activity of gaseous disinfectants. A comparison was made of the bactericidal action of ethylene oxide and of methyl bromide produced on E. coli and Staphylococcus aureus. This method is simple, precise, effective and allowed comparson of the bactericidal effect of 2 or more gases in strictly indentical experimental conditions (concentration, exposure, temperature, humidity and pressure). The bactericidal properties of methyl bromide were found to be considerably inferior to those of ethylene oxide.
