A new genus of interatheres from the Miocene of Colombia

A new genus of interatheres from the Miocene of Colombia

Univ California Publ Geol Sci 29(6): 265-348

MIOCOCHILIUS anomogodus (Interatheriidae), late Miocene is based on a nearly complele skeleton and numerous incomplete skeletons. Tabulated comparisons with other genera, in regard to skull and dentition, are made. The development of foot structure in interatheres presents a peculiar semiparallelism to the development of the paraxonic unguligrade artiodactyl. This n. genus combines very primitive eutherian pedal attributes with highly specialized paraxonial adaptations to obtain a subunguligrade method of locomotion.
