A new method for determining paleotemperature of sedimentary basin in Jiuxi Basin, Gansu, China; the thermoelectrical coefficient of pyrite

Based on pyrite in mudstone of well Long 3 in the Jiuxi basin, the authors discuss the possibility of determining basin paleotemperature by using mineral thermoelectricity. The results show that the thermoelectrical coefficient relates to formed temperature of pyrite during mudstone sedimentation, and the relativity between the formed temperature of pyrite and its depth is the positive correlation (r = 0.92). Meanwhile the homogeneous temperatures of fluid inclusions of quartz and calcite in sandstone cement of well Long 3 and vitrinite reflectance (R (sub o) ) from mudstone of well Xican 1 are determined, the results indicate that the paleotemperatures by using three methods have comparative similar results.
