A study with isotopic nitrogen of the protein metabolism in detached runner-bean leaves



New Phytol 53(1): 38-43



The rapid loss of protein observed when detached leaves are placed in the dark masks concurrent protein synthesis. This synthesis was demonstrated by the incorporation of N15-iabelled ammonium N into the leaf protein. The 2 amino groups of lysine from the protein were equally labelled.
