Abstract
In the presence of the anterior pituitary gland both entry of iodide into and its release from the thyroid gland are carefully controlled [apparently not only by TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone)]. When the anterior pituitary is ablated, this control is lost and the amount of iodide entering the gland increases in direct proportion to the increase in the dose of iodide given.
