Apparent resistivity modelling of some three-dimensional shallow structures using by four different electrode configurations

In this study, using a finite-difference algorithm, the responses of the Schlumberger, Wenner, pole-pole and dipole-dipole configurations, which are widely used in the resistivity method, to some three-dimensional shallow subsurface models were simulated. These models are based on environmental, hydrogeological and karstic problems which are frequently encountered in near surface geophysics. Based on the multi-channel data acquisition, simulations included calculation of the apparent resistivity pseudo-sections and maps for each model by each configuration. The presence of the shallow resistive or conductive bodies, increase in the depth of the target structures and complexity of the models seriously affected the resolution of the anomalies generated by the configurations. The maximum contribution to anomaly is originated by shallow structures. Therefore, the interpretation of the apparent resistivity maps is easier when the target structures are present in shallow depths. In case of the three-dimensional geophysical surveys the interpretations can be achieved using the apparent pseudo-sections and maps. Considering the success of the survey, choosing the appropriate configuration according to target is important.
