Communal display behaviour of Indian myna, Acridotheres tristis

Communal display behaviour of Indian myna, Acridotheres tristis

Pavo 31(1-2): 45-54

The communal display behaviour of Indian myna Acridotheres tristis was studied monthly at its different communal roosts during June 1973 to August 1976 at Pune City. During the pre-roost gatherings and subsequent movements various aspects of pre-roosting displays such as size of displaying flocks, types of manoeuvre, time of display etc. were recorded. It was observed that there are day to day and monthly variations in the number of displays. These displays were noticed only during October to March (Pre-breeding season), however, they were totally absent during the rest of the period. The probable functions of pre-roost gatherings and communals displays have been discussed.
