Direct and residual effects of liquid ammonium polyphosphate as a phosphorus source in wheat -maize cropping system in an Entisol of western Uttar Pradesh

A field experiment was conducted during the winter (rabi) and rainy (kharif) seasons from 1991-92 to kharif 1993 on a sandy-loam soil, to evaluate the direct and residual effects of liquid ammonium polyphosphate (APP) as a source of phosphorus on yield and phosphorus uptake in wheat (Triticum aestivum L. emend. Fiori and Paol.) - maize (Zea mays L.) cropping system. Liquid APP was found equally effective in increasing yields of wheat (direct effect) and maize (residual effect) and in increasing available P content in soil compared to single superphosphate and diammonium phosphate in an Entisol of western Uttar Pradesh.
