Dokuchaevs pedology and modern problems of the genesis, ecology, and amelioration of soils

Dokuchaevs pedology and modern problems of the genesis, ecology, and amelioration of soils

Eurasian Soil Science 34(11): 1145-1153

The role of Dokuchaev's pedology in solving topical problems related to the genesis, ecology, and amelioration of soils is considered. The main stages in the development of Dokuchaev's doctrine of soil-the fourth kingdom of nature-are reviewed. Special emphasis is given to the analysis of natural and artificial waterlogging of soils as a factor of soil formation and to the evolution of wetland soils. The main reasons behind the adverse changes in the soil cover of waterlogged areas are discussed, and ecologically safe measures to control these changes are suggested.
