Effect of live weight at first calving of Polish Black-and-White and F-1 heifers on their subsequent conformation, fertility and dairy performance, in herds of high and low dairy production

Effect of live weight at first calving of Polish Black-and-White and F-1 heifers on their subsequent conformation, fertility and dairy performance, in herds of high and low dairy production

Prace i Materialy Zootechniczne 0(43): 33-43

In herds of low or high dairy performance crossbred heifers (50%HF) and their BW contemporaries fertilized at a low live weight ( lt 360 kg) demonstrated a significantly lower insemination index and age at first calving (by 3.4-4.2 months) than those fertilized at a higher live weight ( gt 360 kg). However, they had a significantly poorer conformation after calving and lower (for F-1 crossbreds significantly) milk yield in the I and II lactation. They also had more "hard " and "very hard' calvings and the number of complications after the first calving was 1.5 to twice as high.
