Efficacy of certain newer insecticides with novel modes of action on tobacco caterpillar, Spodoptera litura

Certain newer insecticides with novel modes of action along with some conventional insecticides were assayed using 'leaf dip' method against 4, 7 and 10-day old larvae of <i>S. litura</i>. Emamectin benzoate 5% WSG was the most effective and abamectin 1.9% EC was the least effective among the insecticides tested even though both belong to avermectin group. The LC<sub>50s</sub> of emamectin benzoate against 4, 7 and 10-day old larvae were recorded as 0.22, 0.25 and 0.34 ppm, respectively.
