Infectivity of the Philippine strain of Schistosoma japonicum in Oncomelania hupensis, O. formosana and O. nosophora

Oncomelania hupensis, O. nosophora, and O. formosana were exposed to the Philippine strain of Schistosoma japonicum. While O. formosana was refractory to infection, 20% of O. hupensis and 9.6% of O. nosophora became infected. The results of the studies on the infectivity of different geographic strains of S. japonicuro in different Oncomelania species obtained by various authors are summarized in one table. The relative infectivity-susceptibility of the 4 geographic strains of the parasite and 4 geographic species of the intermediate hosts illustrates the results of millions of years of evolutional adaptation.
