Abstract
The influence of the addition of propylene glycol or monensin to diets of dairy cows during the transition period on milk production and milk composition was studied. A total of 42 multiparous Holstein cows with an average milk production of 8000 kg in the previous lactation were distributed in a completely randomized design and were divided into seven groups receiving either control diets or diets with 30 ppm of monensin or 300 ml of propylene glycol during the transition period.
