Bacillus suipestifer, B. abortus equi and B. enteritidis gartneri, were submerged in a 0.2% solution of "xilonapht-5" (for 10-90 min.) or in 0.1% NaOH solution (for 10-180 min.). "Xilonapht" did not cause any change in the biochemical properties. Culture growth was arrested within 70-90 min. After being submerged 40 min. in NaOH, the cultures lost the ability to produce gas; and within 120 min. the ability to ferment sugars decreased. Growth stopped within 80-180 min. The changes were reversible.
