The effect of the intensity of light oh tomato plants at various stages in the formation of reproductive organs

The effect of the intensity of light oh tomato plants at various stages in the formation of reproductive organs

Doklady Akad Nauk Sssr 102(5): 1035-1038

The high requirements of tomato fruit for intense illumination is noted. Not enough light during development in the greenhouse delays flowering and decreases the productivity of the plant. It is believed that, for the normal formation of the reproductive organs and especially of their sexual elements, the presence of plastic substances in the leaves and the possibility of transfer of these substances along the stem is insufficient; there must also be certain metabolic processes of substances formed directly in the developing bud but only in the presence of sufficiently intense light.
