Variability in malting barley, cultivar Ruen, induced by tissue culture and mutagen treatment

Variability in malting barley, cultivar Ruen, induced by tissue culture and mutagen treatment

Genetics & Breeding 28(3-4): 21-25, 1996-

Regenerants from two rowed malting barley cultivar Ruen have been obtained by a previously developed regeneration procedure. The effect of gamma rays Co60 and sodium azide applied to the initial explants has been studied. In order to assess genetic variability in the regenerants field evalution of 146 individual regenerant lines has been carried out. Morphological deviations in stem height, spike length, number of the seeds per spike, number of internodes, grain yield and number of tillers have been observed. Number of plants possessing valuable agronomic traits have been selected.
