Mutagenic effectiveness and efficiency of EMS, gamma rays and their combinations in blackgram Hepper

Dry seeds of two cultivars namely Pant U-19 and T-9 were treated with EMS (0.2%. 0.4% and 0.6%), gamma rays (150 Gy, 250 Gy and 350 Gy) and their combination (150 Gy + 0.2%, 250 Gy + 0.2%, 359 Gy + 0.2%). Data on percent germination and percent lethality in different treatment were recorded. Chlorophyll mutation frequencies were expressed as mutation percent M1, plants and mutants percent M2 seedlings. The data indicated that the lower doses of mutagens were more effective, while gamma rays treatments were more efficient than EMS and combined treatments in producing the chlorobhyll mutations in both the cultivars.
