Large-scale mapping of platforms neotectonics Moscow City as an example



Geoekologiya (Moskva)



An experience in large-scale (1:50 000-1:10 000) neotectonic mapping of platform areas is under consideration. Specific parameters of neotectonic structural forms in these territories (i.e., large sizes of the main up- and down-warpings, extremely low space and time gradients of velocities and altitudes of Late Cenozoic and recent tectonic movements, etc.), complicate their revealing and mapping. Most of map legends reflects mainly the geomorphological features, which are indirect indicators of neotectonic structures; therefore, in essence, these maps appear to be geomorphological and neotectonic maps. Large-scale neotectonic mapping demands comprehensive analysis of origin and age of all significant relief features at the Earth's surface and Late Cenosoic geological structures, permitting us to reveal the regularities in their space and time distribution that can be caused and explained by structural and geodynamical factors. Such analysis must be obligatorily based on the data of middle- and small-scale generalization.
