Peculiarities of the reproductive system in Epinephelus aeneus Saint-Hilaire and Epinephelus alexandrinus Valenciennes Serranidae from the south-eastern Mediterranean Sea

The histological analysis of gonads has shown that ovarian and testicular tissues are intermingled in both species, which start functioning as females and later ovary reversal to testes takes place. The fecundity was found to increase in E. aeneus and to decrease in E. alexandrinus with growth.
