Bird diversity in Kaiyuan City of Yunnan Province

The survey of birds resources in Kaiyuan city of Yunan province was carried out using fixed sample point and line transect method from January 2004 to August 2008. A total of 183 species birds, belonging to 52 families and 16 orders, which included 2 first-grade and 17 second-grade Chinese National Key Protected Wild Animal Species were recorded during a 5-year-period investigation. According to the avifauna, 84, 8 and 21 species were belonged to the Oriental realm, Palaearctic realm and cosmopolitan species, accounting for 74.3%, 7.1% and 18.6% of total species, respectively. For species diversity index of the 4 communities, the bush valley>conifer-broad leaf mixed forests>lake wetland>crop land. And the bush valley had the highest evenness index. Among the 4 communities, the bush valley is most similar to the crop land in species composition.
