A toxin in the coelomic fluid of scalded starfish (Asterias forbesi)

A burn toxin has been demonstrated in the fluid of scalded starfish. Injections of the toxin into recipient starfish resulted in autotomy followed by death. The non species specific material isolated from scalded starfish coelomic fluid is a heat stable, dialyzable substance.
