Electrophoretic analysis of tissues of starred sturgeon Acipenser stellatus of Volga river in starch and polyacrylamide gels demonstrated high level of allozyme variability. Among 24 loci studied 9 (37.5%) were polymorphic, mean heterozygosity .hivin.H being 0.093 + 0.003. Duplicate gene expression examined in 29 loci was about 31%. Data confirm the conclusion about the tetraploid origin of the species.
