Biology and immature stages of oriental fruit fly, Bactrocera dorsalis Hendel Diptera Tephritidae

Biological studies of Bactrocera dorsalis revealed average incubation period of 1.30 days and hatchability of 91.50 per cent. The average larval and pupal durations were 7.25 and 8.36 days respectivley while the average duration from egg to adult emergence was 16.91 days. Averae sex ratio was 1:1.09. Larveae were amphipneustic, twelve segmented, acephalous and the three larval instars showed differences in their size, cephalopharyngeal skeleton and spiracles. The life history and morpholgy of different immature stages have been discussed.
