The RCP 40, or Programmed Cooperative Research on Soil Ecology, joined four basic scientific fields:Pedology, Microbiology, Botany and Zoology. The 230 specimens of Campodeidae, collected in 18 french Departments, were representative of eight species of the genus Campodea s. str.; one of them, described from Hampshire, in the south of England, is new for the french fauna; a new description much more accurate is provided and a lectotype, in the Bagnall's Collection (BHMN, Entomology), is selected. In addition, two distinct phenotypes of C. staphylinus (the type species of the family) are segregated.
