Carl Johan Schonherr - an entomologist worth to remember Part 1 Carl Johan Schonherr - en entomolog val vard att minnas Del 1

Entomologisk Tidskrift. oktober; 1192: 89-92

Some notes are given on the life and correspondence of the Swedish late 18th to early 19th century entomologist Carl Johan Schonherr, who died 150 years ago. He was a well-situated silk manufacturer who spent much of his spare time studying beetles. His most important works on insects are Synonymia Insectorum in three volumes, including an appendix with over one hundred new species described, and two monumental works on weevils Curculionidum disposition and Genera et Species Curculionidum, both in Latin. Schonherr had a lively correspondence with many of the worlds most famous entomologists at the time, among others Carl Peter Thunberg and Leonard Gyllenhal in Sweden, baron Dejean in France, Friedrich August von Gebler in Siberia and Gotthelf Fischer von Waldheim in Moscow.
