, : Cause of death within golden eagles in the Werdenfelser Land area, Bavaria, with comments on lead contamination as cause of death within raptors Todesursachen beim Steinadler Aquila chrysaetos im Werdenfelser Land mit Anmerkungen zur Bleivergiftung als Todesursache bei Greifvoegeln. Avifaunistik in Bayern. Dezember; 32: 91-96

In the Werdenfelser Land, districts of Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Bad Toelz-Wolfratshausen, Weilheim-Schongau and Ostallgaeu 39 dead or injured Golden Eagles Aquila chrysaetos were found since 1966. In ten cases, the causes of death could be demonstrated: four Golden Eagles died due to lead contamination, three were killed in traps, two where shot and one clashed with a full size glider. In 2006 a White-tailed Eagle Haliaeetus albicilla and a Lammergeier Gypaetus barbatus were found with lead contamination in Bavaria too. Obviously the problematic of lead contamination is underestimated for raptors.
