Santiago of Cuba bay is the second one polluted in Cuba, following the Havana bay. Most important pollutant agents are heavy metals, detergents, organic and inorganic liquid, domestic waste and hydrocarbons. It was carry out some physical, chemical and microbiology analysis in order to evaluate the pollution degree of the water: CODs, nitrate, nitrite and anmonia concentration, pH, temperature, salinity, dissolved oxygen, faecal coliforms, and phytoplanktonic concentration. Microalgae were identify too albeit only species were reported in some cases. The strains were taking on following the pattern of area profiles on 43 stations. Studies were carried out in July of 1998. Euhalobic diatomeas and cianophytas are the most abundant microalgae. The represented genus are Ceratoneis, Pinnularia, Navicula, Nitzschia and Phaeodactylum (diatomeas), Chroococcus, Oscillatory, Banana (cianofitas), Chlorella (clorofita), Euglena (euglenofita) and phytophlagelates. The density of phytoplankton community was afected by pollution in the Santiago de Cuba bay.
