Abstract
The geometrid moth Scotopteryx coarctaria is a stenoecic species, found in large areas of sandy heaths with the host plant Sarothamnus scoparius. In Germany, contemporary records are only known from Brandenburg and neighbouring areas of Saxony and Sachsen-Anhalt. These records represent the northern boundary of S. coarctaria. A regional distribution map is given in the present paper. Since the number of records has decreased considerably during the last decades, there is danger of extinction of S. coarctaria in Germany. Protection of its habitat is urgently required; recommendations for appropriate measures are given.
