Distribution and microhabitat preferences of Anura Amphibia in mature forest and disturbed areas in Anchicaya, Colombian Pacific region Distribucion y preferencias de microhabitat en anuros Amphibia en bosque maduro y areas perturbadas en Anchicaya, Pacifico colombiano

, : Distribution and microhabitat preferences of Anura Amphibia in mature forest and disturbed areas in Anchicaya, Colombian Pacific region Distribucion y preferencias de microhabitat en anuros Amphibia en bosque maduro y areas perturbadas en Anchicaya, Pacifico colombiano. Caldasia. Marzo; 211: 95-109

We studied the richness, distribution, and microhabitat selection of anurans at Anchicaya, on the Pacific region of Colombia, an area under deforestation. We distributed nine sampling transects within three habitats (mature forest, transition forest, and deforested areas) and sampled them during seven months (October 1995 through April 1996). We found 15 species of anurans; Eleutherodactylus raniformis, Agalychnis spurrelli and Smilisca phaeota were the most abundant, with 158, 58 and 42 individuals respectively. The richness and distribution of anurans was affected by human disturbance; the number of species in the transitional habitat was greatest due to greater complexity of the vegetation, which offers high microhabitat diversity. The construction of artificial bodies of water may influence the distribution and abundance of species reproducing in lentic water, as A. spurrelli.
