Distribution and population of the green toad in Schleswig-Holstein Verbreitung und Bestandssituation der Wechselkroete in Schleswig-Holstein

, : Distribution and population of the green toad in Schleswig-Holstein Verbreitung und Bestandssituation der Wechselkroete in Schleswig-Holstein. Mertensiella. 30 Juni; 14: 18-24

The present and former distribution of Bufo viridis are illustrated. The green toad has been restricted to the eastern parts of Schleswig-Holstein, which are characterized by a more continental climate. During the last decades a dramatic decline of this species has taken place in all parts of the distribution area. Today only 22 records are known. Possible causes of decline are discussed. The future prospect of B. viridis is still uncertain. Conservation measures have been taken.
