, : Distribution and status of the adder Vipera berus Linnaeus, 1758 in Saxony-Anhalt Verbreitung und Bestandssituation der Kreuzotter Vipera berus Linnaeus, 1758 in Sachsen-Anhalt. Mertensiella. 1 Dezember; 15: 48-51

The knowledge about the occurrence of the adder (Vipera berus) in Saxony-Anhalt is incomplete. To date, 70 sites are well-known which are limited to a few distinct isolated areas. The Harz highlands with their boreal environment are known to be the main distribution area. Furthermore, there is one significant population in the south of Saxony-Anhalt. In the Red Data List of Saxony-Anhalt the adder is categorized as "critically endangered".
