Distribution of bats of the genus Nyctalus Mammalia, Chiroptera in the west of the Basque Country Distribucion de los murcielagos del genero Nyctalus Mammalia, Chiroptera en el Pais Vasco Occidental

, : Distribution of bats of the genus Nyctalus Mammalia, Chiroptera in the west of the Basque Country Distribucion de los murcielagos del genero Nyctalus Mammalia, Chiroptera en el Pais Vasco Occidental. Estudios del Museo de Ciencias Naturales de Alava, 17: 171-178

We determined the distribution of the bats from genus Nyctalus in Araba, Bizkaia and Gipuzkoa. We sampled thoroughly all 10 x 10 km UTM quadrats between years 1995 and 2000, searching in roosts, and using nets, harp traps and ultrasound detectors. N. leisleri is frequent and is present in most of the study area, however, some gaps appeared in its distribution, probably associated with the limited availability of roosts. We did not found N. noctula and N. lasiopterus in this study, and we consider them as rare or unfrequent, since very few localisations have been achieved in adjacent areas with high sampling effort in the last years.
