, : Distribution of carrion crow Corvus corone corone and magpie nests Pica pica along an urban-rural transect between the town centre of Kiel and the village Bothkamp/Kirchbarkau Verteilung von Rabenkraehen- Corvus corone corone and Elsternbruten Pica pica auf einem Stadt-Land-Gradienten zwischen dem Stadtzentrum Kiels and Bothkamp/Kirchbarkau. Corax, 192: 195-202

In 1999 Carrion Crow and Magpie nests were surveyed along a transect between the town centre of Kiel and the rural landscape to the south of the town. 101 Carrion Crow and 38 Magpie nests were recorded. The Carrion Crow did not nest in residential areas. It dominated, however, in all other parts of the 46 km2 study area. In the villages both species bred in similar densities. The variation in the breeding densities of the two species between the different regions is thought to be due to inter-specific competition and differences in feeding ecology. The reduction in human persecution and the resulting diminished shyness allows the species to colonise food rich territories in town and village areas.
