Establishment and utilization of a mass rearing for Eristalis tenax Diptera, Syrphidae in the Gatersleben genebank Aufbau und Nutzung einer Massenzucht von Eristalis tenax Diptera, Syrphidae in der Genbank Gatersleben

Insecta (Berlin): 3: 92-99

Besides bees (Hymenoptera, Apoidea) hover fies are the most effective flower pollinators. Their broader application for crop pollination and other possible purposes depends from a rearing technique working throughout the whole year. There is presented a simple method for keeping large populations of Eristalis tenax in captivity. Some information is given about biology and behaviour in comparison with related species under artificial conditions.
