Histocompatibility in hawaiian and polynesian populations of the parthenogenetic gecko lepidodactylus lugubris

Analysis of tissue grafting in the parthenogenetic lizard L. lugubris revealed genetic homogeneity within Hawaiian populations, and between Hawaii and Polynesia. Permanent allograft acceptance among the most closely related members of local populations averaged .apprx. 73%, and between populations of the same island .apprx. 46%. Interisland histocompatibility in the Hawaiian archipelago averaged 40% between Hawaii and Maui, 31% between Hawaii and Oahu, and 32% between Hawaii and Kauai. Interarchipelagic histocompatibility averaged 39% between Hawaii and Polynesia. Such evidence of isogenicity suggests that the entire species, now distributed throughout the Indian and Pacific oceans, originated from a single ancestral female.
