Neogene ostracod faunas from the area south of Thessaloniki northern Greece Neogene Ostracodenfaunen im Gebiet sudlich von Thessaloniki Nordgriechenland

Senckenbergiana Lethaea. 31 Dezember; 761-2: 159-173

The study of the Neogene ostracod faunas from south of Thessaloniki (Northern Greece) has led to several surprising results which permit a better assessment of the Neogene paleobiogeography of Northern Greece and will probably also lead to a more reliable stratigraphic placement of certain units. The fauna allows precise correlation of the Trilophos Formation with deposits of the Katerini and Strimon area and furthermore with those from the Upper Pontian (Portaferrian) of the Eastern Paratethys. Thirty five species were determined of which Loxoconcha pauciornata, L. rusti, L. trilophosensis and Loxocorniculina aegaea are new.
