The reproduction of silver croaker, Plagioscion squamosissimus, was investigated by means of samples derived from monthly catches in the the reservoir of Tucurui power plant, Para State, Brazil, in the years 2001 and 2002. Gill nets were used as fishing gear and, at laboratory, the fish were submitted to biometric measurement, and identification of the sex and gonad maturity stages. Predominance of females, with statistical significance, was registered in all months but February and November of 2002, and also for all size classes, especially from 51 cm TL onwards due to total absence of males. Estimate of the length at first sexual maturity were recorded in the 30-33 cm TL range, through the extrapolation technique, and at 32.4 cm TL, through the Galton's ogive method. The silver croaker's spawning season takes place all year round, but with a peak reproduction period on September-October.
