The release of tortoises into the wild, accidental or prepared (conservation programmes), can trigger health. A parasitological survey has been undertaken on Testudo hermanni at The Tortoise Village (captive tortoises brought by privates). Results have been compared to those obtained on wild Testudo hermanni. At their arrival, the animals of the Tortoise Village were systematically treated with anthelmintic. Vermifugation is never 100% efficient. Eggs and worms can still persist after and can be transmitted to other individuals. Our goal is to check which kind of parasites are still observed after vermifugation and to assess the risk for wild populations in case of transmission. Coprological examinations and necropsies show that the parasites still observed are nematodes of the families Pharyngodonidae (Oxyuroidea) and Atractidae (Cosmocercoidea), for tortoises both from the Village and those wild. Alter being treated, captive tortoises cannot threaten wild tortoises through contamination by harmful helminths. This is also the first report of Tachygonetria numidica in a wild Testudo hermanni.
