Prace a Studie Muzea Beskyd Prirodni Vedy 15: 173-186

The aim of the study is to compare population density of large carnivores in the region Frydek-Mistek, especially in the Beskydy Protected Landscape Area (PLA). The research area covers 57.212 ha. The compared data were received mainly from hunting statistic report and from the news about original mapping of big game carried out in the Beskydy PLA. The obtained results demonstrate that nowadays the population of the european lynx (Lynx lynx Linnaeus, 1758) and the brown bear (Ursus arctos Linnaeus, 1758) has been stabilized. The population of the wolf (Canis lupus Linnaeus, 1758) is very unstable, caused by the impact of human beings. Areas of European lynx of the size appr. 64 km2 and brown bear about 143 km2 were observed.
