The birds of Villa Borghese, Rome Effects of availability of food of human origin on the bird community Gli uccelli di Villa Borghese, Roma effetti della disponibilita trofica di origine antropica sulla comunita ornitica

, : The birds of Villa Borghese, Rome Effects of availability of food of human origin on the bird community Gli uccelli di Villa Borghese, Roma effetti della disponibilita trofica di origine antropica sulla comunita ornitica. Alula (Roma): 121-2: 157-182

The purpose of this study is to compile a check list of birds that frequent the roman urban park of Villa Borghese, to appraise the monthly variations and the annual variations of the bird community, and to appraise the effect of the presence of bird species that feed foods of human origin on the community parameters. Without excluding this set of species from the elaborations it is not possible to correctly understand the ecological problems that involve in the area. Effecting this subtraction a very significant correlation can be noticed among the values of the biomass and the monthly minimum temperatures. A total of 37 species has been found. The winter months are those with the greater number of species. The values of the bio-mass don't show substantial variations among the two years of study, while the index of turnover between one year and the other is relatively tall. This could be due to dynamic budget between the rate of colonization and the rate of extinction, in relationship to a constant carrying capacity, as proposed by the theory of the insular biogeography.
