Comparative studies on the management of the so-called infantile seborrheic dermatitis

Comparative studies on the management of the so-called infantile seborrheic dermatitis

Dermatologische Monatschrift 163(12): 950-958

The therapeutic effect of nystatin in 5 forms of treatment was tested on the assumption that Candida albicans was the pathogen, in view of its frequency in cases of the disease. The best results were obtained with nystatin oil zinci for the napkin and intertriginous areas, prednisolone 0.1%-hydroxyquinoline sulfuric. 0.25% ointment for the head and body and 3 X 250 000 IU nystatin orally, the duration of treatment being 7-35 days, av. 16.46 days. Results supported the hypothesis that the disease is a C. infection of the skin with candidids.
