Coronary arteriosclerosis and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol

The content of blood plasma lipids and the degree of affection of coronary arteries have been studied in 221 patients suffering from coronary heart disease (CHD) and angiographically established coronary atherosclerosis and in 47 patients with neurocirculatory dystonia. The average concentration of total cholesterol and blood plasma triglycerides and the atherogenic index in patients with grave coronary affection were higher and cholesterol content of high-density lipoproteins lower than in CHD patients with a moderately pronounced coronary atherosclerosis and in patients with neurocirculatory dystonia. A negative correlation was revealed between the concentration of cholesterol of high-density lipoproteins and the degree of atherosclerotic affection of the coronary arteries in coronary atherosclerosis.
