, : Epidemiological survey of paragonimiasis in Fujian Province. Zhonghua Yu Fang Yi Xue Za Zhi 21(6): 331-334

From 1975 to 1985, a general survey on the epidermiology of paragonimiasis was carried out in Fujian Province. The main results are as follows: 1. Six kinds of Paragonimus, namely P. ringeri (P. pulmonalis), P. westermani, P. skrjabini (P. szechuanensis), Euparagonimus cenocopiosus, P. fukienensis and P. mingingensis, were found in the endemic area. 2. Four species of fresh-water snails, namely Semisulcospira libertina, Oncomelaria bupensis tangi, Tricula fujanensis and Pseudobythinella kienouensis, were found in the endemic area. These snails were naturally infected with cercariae of Paragonimus the rate was 0.35% (443/127 160). 3. Eight species of fresh-water crabs, namely Sinopotamon fujianense, S. wuyiensis, Somanniathelphusa sinensis sinensis, Malayopotamon fukienense, Nanhaipotamon angulatum, N. formosanum, N. obtusum and Eriocheir sinensis were found in the endemic area. These crabs were naturally infected with metacercariae cysts of Paragonimus and the rate was 39.0% (2 579/6 612), the number of cyst per crab varied 1-5145. 4. Sixteen kinds of mammals such as Panthera tigris et al were found infected with Paragonimus either naturally, and could be infected in the laboratory. 5. Among 22 777 persons tested intradermally with antigens prepared from adult Paragonimus worms, 3 105 were positive.
