An adjustable self-supporting eyelid speculum

An adjustable self-supporting eyelid speculum

American Journal of Ophthalmology 93(1): 119-121

I have modified a Maumenee-Park eyelid speculum to permit eyelid retraction in the direct plane of action of the lids and to avoid pressure on the globe from the speculum weight. A ball-joint at the end of the blade allows the blade to adjust with the eyelid. Increased angulation of the sidearm places the blade perpendicular to the eyelid. An adjustable rod at the screw end removes the weight of the speculum and secures the device.
