Abstract
A means of preparative enzymatic synthesis of guanosine tetraphosphate (pp Gpp), guanosine pentaphosphate (ppp Gpp), and related derivatives is deseribed. The Escherichia coli ribosomes can be recovered, stored, and used repeatedly as a source of synthetic activity. The procedure described affords a relatively simple means of synthesizing gram amounts of these nucleotides as well as some derivatives such as the β-γ methylenyl derivative of guanosine pentaphosphate (pepp Gpp).
