AIDS Action initiative to fight Medicaid restrictions

AIDS Action initiative to fight Medicaid restrictions

Aids Action Update 9(2): 11-11

Forty percent of all people living with HIV/AIDS (PWAs) rely on Medicaid at some point during their illness. AIDS Action has launched an initiative to protect these people and Medicaid. The House and Senate have agreed on a budget which will realize at least $180 billion in savings from Medicaid over the next seven years by limiting its growth below projected rates. President Clinton would like to limit savings to $54 billion. AIDS Action's initiative will work to develop standards and guidelines that allow the new Medicaid managed care structures to respond to the needs of PWAs and others with chronic diseases. AIDS Action also plans to analyze Federal legislative and regulatory proposals and review approved and pending Section 115 waiver proposals to assess their impact on PWAs. Finally, AIDS Action is working to develop educational materials for dissemination to policymakers, community organizations and clinics.
