As financial analysts list a growing number of hospitals in "distressed" condition, more executives are acknowledging the shaky status of their institutions and are seeking help. And assistance is in plentiful supply as specialized turnaround consultants multiply. But at many of these hospitals, being dubbed "distressed" is an inaccurate characterization--financial results and other criteria may not tell the whole story.
